Eating & drinking in Tinahely

Wicklow lamb, hand-pulled pints, real coffee and a Sunday roast worth driving for. The village has a friendly square of award-winning pubs, a beloved coffee shop, a working farm shop and one of the most famous country pubs in the country a few miles out.

Where to eat & drink

All within a five-minute stroll of Madeline's on Dwyer Square — except The Dying Cow, which is well worth the short drive. Opening hours change with the seasons, so it's always worth a phone call before a special trip.

D'Lish Coffee Shop

A bright, friendly coffee shop in the village serving proper coffee, traybakes, sandwiches and a daily soup. The kind of spot where you nip in for a takeaway flat white and end up staying an hour. A favourite stop before or after a walk.

The Dying Cow

★ 4.7

An off-the-beaten-track country pub a few miles outside the village — one of those rare places that hasn't changed in decades. A bar in someone's front room, an open fire, mismatched stools and a name with a story behind it. Worth the detour.

A traditional family butcher on the main street, known across the area for Wicklow lamb, dry-aged beef and the kind of advice you only get from someone who's been cutting meat for forty years. If you're self-catering, this is your first stop.

Eat, drink & walk back to Madeline's.

One of the quiet joys of Tinahely is that you can leave the car at Madeline's and walk to dinner. O'Connor's, Murphy's and D'Lish are all on Dwyer Square — five minutes from your room — so there's no driving and no taxi to worry about after a long lunch and a few pints.

Self-service coded entry means you can roll back at any hour without disturbing anyone. Ideal after a session in O'Connor's.

Saturday morning

Local markets & the very best of Wicklow produce.

Saturday mornings, drop into the Tinahely Farm Shop for free-range eggs, honey, smoked trout, sourdough, jams and Wicklow lamb. For a bigger spread, nearby Aughrim Town & Country Market and Macreddin Village Food Market are both a short drive away and stocked with growers and bakers from across the county.

Build a picnic, grab a flask of coffee from D'Lish, and head off for a walk in Tomnafinnoge Wood or along the Wicklow Way. There's no better way to spend a Saturday in Wicklow.
